CELEBRATING CRC (Convention of the Right of the Child) AND UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights)

... with the help of Children’s theatre
Gymnasium 4 Smorgon, (Belarus)

All people around the world who believe in children and human rights are celebrating International events dedicated to the 20 anniversary of CRC (November 20) and UN Human Rights Day dedicated to UDHR (December 10). We are studying human rights at school and found the classes very useful and interesting for us as for future active citizens in the country in transition.
We are like children and human rights educators for our parents because most of them never heard about CRC and UDHR during former USSR. We took a decision to use the power of art to celebrated the day and prepare for the rest of the local community a special performance dedicated to the event. The point is that in Smorgon is working very famous (at least for local pupils) children’s theatre where pupils who would like to try an artist profession or become a famous person at school and society are studying every year.
Theatre is working free of charge and all you need just to find a free time and have good memory to play your role. The main idea of our play is that no one has right to violate and deny your rights it doesn’t matter at school or society, in our country or somewhere. We have to respect each other if we would like to live in peace and dignity.
It is very excited event for all pupils from local schools because they are playing a lot and sometimes with a huge success. Very experienced teachers are working with us and share an artists professional skills with us and know how to make us an artists, good citizens and promote world and national values as a tool for art human rights education and active citizenship.
Theatre is functioning with the help of state. When we need money for decorations we are selling tickets -just asking for pupils, teachers, parents to donate for our common business – children’s school theatre as a place for children development and education.
Other schools have not theatre and we are very proud that we have it.
Our activity and energy, cooperation and collaboration with teachers, parents allowed us  to explore children rights at school and society, prepare us for the future adult life. We could share our way of living and playing, studying and working in the school Children’s Theatre, which became children and human rights theatre this year.
